- The code changes everyday.
- Don't know where to start? Look for single-letter words, contractions, double letters, and other patterns that might serve as a jumping-off point. The rest is reasoning, intuition, fortitude, and a bit of trial and error.
- Mature themes and adult language are indicated in the categories listed below the code. Codes often have mature themes and adult language.
- To submit an answer, click on the Comments link under the code and type your solution complete with the Twitter handle of the person who authored the tweet (@ plus name). Answers cannot be accepted without attribution. Please note that comments won't be visible on the web site until the next day to give people in different time zones a chance to play before the answer is revealed.
- The first, second, and third person to solve the puzzle correctly get a mention on the blog as well as codeSparrow's Twitter feed. If the first person to solve the code is the author himself, winner defaults to runner-up. The top five scorers listed in the sidebar are determined by the number of points earned by each player the previous month (3 for first place, 2 for second, 1 for third). Past winners are listed here.
- Codes post at noon EST Sunday through Friday.
- Older puzzles are stored in the archives (answers are in the comment section).
- No cheating. This is just for fun.
- codeSparrow is not infallible. If you suspect there's a problem with the code, leave a courteous comment and constableWren will be summoned. She's small but fierce.
- To have your tweets considered for encryption, simply follow @codeSparrow on Twitter and codeSparrow will follow you back. However, you don't need a Twitter account to play.
